Correction of the cornea

The medical treatment LASIK (Laser in situ Keratomileusis) implies the computer-controlled modification of the cornea by using a laser beam to correct the refractive error. More than 17 million patients worldwide successfully used this reliable and gentle possibility to correct their shortsightedness (myopic), farsightedness (hyperopic) or astigmastism. In case the natural lens is already clouded (cataract) and has to be removed by standard surgery, it will be optimally combined with the implantation of a special lense for cornea refractive error correction.

One of the important advantages of the lense surgery is the replacebility of the implanted artificial lenses, in case the refractive error demands it. The sensitive cornea remains intact.
